River 05:14
River, can you heal me? Wake me from the walking dead? Wash me of my past and make me present once again? Carry me onward toward a dawn and out of the dark. I’m your wounded vessel, your slow beating heart. And I do fear the unknown. So, River, will you keep your current slow? I’ve been holding strong but folding from the thought of what has come. I went running from someone who could not love the way I love, then I went numb. River, take my travels beyond your channel and out to sea. Those are friendly waters, there are no beasts there that frighten me. Carry me upward toward a dawn and out of the dark. I’m your wounded vessel, but I’m still breathing at my bow. And I do fear the unknown. So, River, will you keep your current slow? I’ve been holding strong but folding from the thought of what has come. I went running from someone who could not love the way I love, then I went numb. River, gather ‘round me. River, set me free.

Let me not forget my privilege. I had no hand in it. I thank my parents For watching over me when I was young, Showing me with ease the worth of love, I’m lucky that I know. Let me not forget my direction- Navigate my path with some perspective. “I’m not the only one who’s battled seein’ black,” I said aloud while it hovered at my back. I knew it soon would pass. I’d like for you to know that I’ve been home, free floating. Chin upon my knees: “the whole damn world is ending.” And I don’t want to live out all my days pretending That I never needed someone’s love to keep surviving. Let me not forget, I have the gift of time Let me embrace the now, know that it is mine. Let me be the lark suspended in the sky, Fearing not the fall that follows every high. Maybe that’s just life. I’d like for you to know that I’ve been home free floating. Chin upon my knees: "the whole damn world is ending." I don’t want to live out all my days pretending... I have always needed someone’s love, I will always need someone's love to keep surviving.

about

Lizzie and Markéta met in the fall of 2014, while Markéta was on tour for her second solo album, "Muna." Lizzie had just released her debut album, and Markéta graciously invited her to perform a song during one of the shows on tour. The two stayed in touch over the years, and in January of 2018, Lizzie invited Markéta to sing and perform on "River," which was intended to be the fourth track for her latest EP release, "You."

They began working on "River" remotely, until deciding to collaborate in person. Lizzie flew to Reykjavik, Iceland where they subsequently finished recording and ended up collaborating on a second song: "Free Floating." The two songs developed a vastly different soundscape with Markéta's influence as producer and co-performer, ultimately prompting a separate release from the "You EP." The result is what you'll hear in these two songs: unique and evocative pieces reflecting their artistic backgrounds and influences of the folk, indie, and Scandinavian genres.
